BOOK REVIEW #55- CRUEL BEAUTY

BLURB:

Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

MY THOUGHTS:

LUSCIOUS. BREATHTAKING. SPLENDID.

A book that kept me up all night reading, after a long time. And now my head is pounding so hard that I need to cut it off. Though I have #noregret at all.

I had this sudden urge to read re-telling and I found this wonderful book and I immediately plunged. The world which was built with everything we already knew and yet twisted. Beauty and the Beast, a story which we(not me, though, I watched the movie two months ago #shame #confession, HEY!, but it’s better late than never) cherished during our childhood. And this retelling reminded me of the original classic and yet at the same time author weaved the greek mythology to this totally engulfed me.

“I was raised to marry a monster.”

The first line hooked me. I know how the story will progress. She will hate him- then understands he is not that cruel-then fell in love. This is a common trope I know but that didn’t stop me from loving and enjoying this.

The characters were so real. Nyx was not that good hearted. She was throbbing inside and still smiling all the way at the ones she wanted to hurt. Not everyone would be pure-hearted. Because of this, she felt so real. And God, I was irritated at her first but then I loved her so much. I loved her snarky comments especially when she was with our beast.

Ignifex. He is really……mischievous. This is the word that comes to my mind to describe him. He always teased Nyx with that annoying smile. And he was definitely WORTH DROOLING. That’s how Nyx felt. Despite herself, she couldn’t help fall in love with his charm.

Both characters are perfect for each other. They both have little darkness which I can’t help but fall in love with.Yeah, I know I’m EVIL and of course, I would love some darkness. And Ignifex was lord of bargains and he strongly reminded me of another evil crush Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold from Once Upon A Time series.

Overall, I loved it so much. I f you haven’t picked it up yet, you just go and read it.

MY RATING: Exceeds Expectation
