BOOK REVIEW #73- CARAVAL
Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .
Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.
Before its release, this was the one thing I could see everywhere. Blogs, Reviews and Bookstagram. I was equally excited and anxious to read it. It was simply enchanting, lush and magical. I would admit that I was totally mesmerized. This book enchanted and pursued me to dive deeper into it. A place, where I want to spend my evening exploring it not for the wish but for some little adventure. But if was not cautious enough, I would be locked out and will either be freezed to death or will be in the brink on madness.
“Remember it’s a game”
You should not swept away from it.
Caraval: A performance. A game. A wish. Controlled by Legend. No one has seen him even his own players didn’t have a clue on how his master looks like. But everyone is aware of one thing. He is a twisted person full of tricks that would lead you to madness and sometimes even death if you’re swept way too far. And this time he was ready to play with two innocent sisters.
An abusive father. This was hard to swallow. Scarlett and Tella were so controlled by their father. He was the one they fear above everything all. And as an elder sister, Scarlett has this responsibility to take care of her when their mother removed herself from the picture. Scarlett would do anything for her sister. A marriage was planned. If that will free them from his father’s hands, Scarlett didn’t have any choice than accepting it. But when the Legend’s invitation for Caraval was sent to them, everything she planned changed into something more.
Scarlett, who loves her sister dearly. She didn’t have a care for herself. Always having eyes only for her wild, fierce and careless sister, to keep her safe from her father. Tella is the key to her father to coerce her to do something. The transition she took when that key was slipped was so good. And she couldn’t do anything when she was deceived by the one she holds dearly other than her sister.
But the plot is too predictable. I couldn’t stop myself from guessing what is going to happen. If only that didn’t happen, this will be the best. If you want a performance, then sure read this.
